Back in the classroom, we were working on our Calendar Art 2021. It's all finished, hanging on the wall. I'm glad I took pictures of each one of them. This week, when we talked about the things we missed, the majority of the students missed their friends and Art Cafe. So here it is to brighten your day and put a smile on your face. Our artworks are inspired by our learning about ecosystems. In particular, the sea, rocky shores and the impact of plastic pollution. We've learned about overfishing and its dangers to Maui dolphins. We wrote about how some creatures like turtles mistake plastic bags for their food...We've investigated a real kina kina (sea urchin). Some groups read about coral bleaching and its effect on the ocean ecosystems, others read about sharks and other exciting sea creatures. The children remembered the Kai Moana song from their kindy. In Room 18, we like reading Maori mythology, so we remembered the story of Ranginui and Papatuanuku. Tangaroa, their son and the guardian of the oceans, rivers and lakes inspires us to be the kaitiaki (guardians) of our planet Earth. This art has the Australasian elements of the Aboriginal dot painting and Maori koru. Of course, the children loved these as bubbles..... One could think of the Australia-New Zealand bubble, the very reason we're learning from home now. When we get back to school the families will be able to purchase these artworks as calendars, diaries, postcards and more. This year our art has a historical value...2021.

Thank you for sharing your lovely art work Room 18. You have all put a lot of effort in producing such wonderful work. Using the Aboriginal style of dot art with white paint is very effective against the colourful and peaceful background. I look forward to seeing more of your artwork in the future.
