Real Problems

A group of children in Room 18 love one of the tables, in particular Andy. He always hugs it when on the mat. That is not always good as it can be distracting.  So this week our Maths problem was all about Andy. The mission for the groups was to measure the area of his favourite table with A4 paper so that his family can go to Bunnings and buy some wood to make one. It was easy until the children came

to realise  there was a narrow part left. A few children folded the paper into halves and quarters.  While some children were learning about the fractions, others were learning how to add fractions. Andy needs 21 and a quarter of A4 size wood to make his dream table!
