Market Delights

Great effort from Room 3 today! All hard work paid off. We had a fantastic day. I was amazed by the  team spirit. The children were selling, carrying advertising posters, packaging the goods, thanking the customers and singing our song. Parents helpers were amazing (Lexi's Mum, Keira's Mum and Ethan's Mum). Penny and John were fantastic, too. In fact Penny was traffic stopping, which is a very skillful selling technique. It was evident to see an instant impact the market had on the children. "We only have a few bags of playdough left!" exclaimed Will. After I started making more, he rushed to the stall to let everyone know more was coming and that's without any prompts from me. A great team spirit is contagious! We made the most money, a whooping $450 in one hour! Thank you for all your help, enthusiasm and donations of goods!

Learning About New Zealand Birds-Kiwi Burrow

This week was a Maori Language Week. Our big book was about New Zealand birds with te reo Maori names. With the creation of a kiwi burrow inside our class the children had an opportunity to explore the concept of nocturnal animals. In pairs they went inside the dark burrow. Their mission: to find some worms and insects for daddy and baby kiwi to eat. We had to be very careful not to disturb our endangered flightless birds. I was impressed with how thoughtful and careful the children were. There were many other birds we learned about like Ruru, Takahe, Piwakawaka and children's favorite: cheeky Kea. It was a busy and a very fruitful week, with the challenges in te reo each morning as well.

Encouraging Learning

"Good job Musa" said Shauib while Musa worked very hard on his cut up name. The whole group was very focused fixing their sentences. Hearing these encouraging words put smile on Musa's face. It was lovely to see students showing maturity and team spirit. This was worth kindness points.  I kept hearing "good job..." a lot this week...
