We started our experience with gathering information about what we knew about the Waitangi Day. We watched a PowerPoint and after that the fun started. With a help of props we re-enacted these historical events through a lense of conflict. Whilst the children had fun, they learned about resilience, perseverance and relationships. We celebrated with waiata by Anika Moa and a made up song:
Sail sail, sail your ship
All the way from Britain
Oceans, rivers, trees and birds
Land of Long, White Cloud
Share, share, share your land
It's so beautiful
Tahi, rua toru wha
Keep New Zealand clean
Sign, sign sign the Treaty
Most of the iwi did
Remember our history
February 6th
