Sharing work with parents

One of the students was so excited to share his food truck and his writing about it with his parents during the goal setting meetings.  Most children are still working on their writing but it was great to share work and show the families the food trucks the students are very proud of.

Market Buzz-

The students in Room 18 learned about running a food truck business from one of NWS parents, Khalid, and shared experiences. Throughout the week,  the children collaborated in teams in designing their logos, menus, food items, advertising posters and of course the food trucks. The open-ended, recycling materials were given to ignite creativity. Each truck was unique.  We've learned about money and basic financial literacy.  We found that we need to practice using money more (homework for the holidays ). It was quite a buzz when businesses were given float money and the shoppers got $10 each to spend. The atmosphere was electric and the businesses were encouraged to give discounts. Their teacher was a sales skills and techniques trainer in the past, so they've learned from a professional how to maximize their business potential. Last Friday Pizza Haven Food Truck came to NWS to share their tasty delights with the students. We all loved this experience.

The Magnificent Food Truck

This week the middle school engaged in the food truck experience to celebrate the math week.  Integrated approach alongside the New Windsor Way competencies such as collaboration and creativity were at the core of our learning.  The students absolutely loved being in charge of this process. After listening to Khalid about his own journey into small business ownership, they've created their logos, menus  posters, food items and most of all, their food trucks.  The open-ended recycling materials were given. It was wonderful to observe the children taking the ownership of their learning. There were a few bumps on the way, after all, it's natural that most wanted to be in charge. Encouragement,  sharing ideas, including others was a big learning step for some children. The trucks are ready to be open for business tomorrow
after three days of preparations.  Watch this space...
